A Local's Perspective
Life in Madison.
Madison grew around the Capitol, which sits on a hill in the middle of the isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. State Street links the Capitol Square to the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, and Lake Wingra and the UW Arboretum lie just to the southwest.
The city has neighborhoods of every era, from 19th-century homes near downtown to post-war ranches and newer subdivisions on the far east and west sides. The Beltline curves across the south side, I-39/90/94 runs along the east edge, and the Dane County Regional Airport is on the north side.
The district serves Shorewood Hills and Maple Bluff, along with surrounding towns.
