A Local's Perspective
Life in McFarland.
McFarland was founded in the 1850s along the rail line south of Madison and incorporated as a village in 1920. Lake Waubesa forms its western edge and Mud Lake lies to the south, and the Yahara River connects the two through Babcock County Park.
US-51 runs through the village, and the Beltline and I-39/90 are a few minutes north and east. The Lower Yahara River Trail links McFarland to Madison's trail network by an off-road route that includes a long boardwalk over the wetlands.
